Withdrawable Type Switchgear

Draw-out switchgear in which the circuit breaker or functional unit can be racked between service, test, and isolated positions — engineered by HARRL for safe maintenance and reliable medium & low voltage power distribution.

What Is Withdrawable Type Switchgear?

Withdrawable type switchgear — also called draw-out or racking switchgear — is an assembly in which the main switching device (typically a vacuum circuit breaker, or a low-voltage functional unit) is mounted on a removable truck rather than bolted in place. The truck travels along guide rails between three defined positions: service (primary and secondary circuits connected), test (control circuit live, power contacts isolated), and isolated / withdrawn (fully separated with an automatic shutter covering the live busbar spouts).

This draw-out construction is the defining feature of HARRL's metal-clad medium voltage range and our type-tested low voltage assemblies. It is the preferred design wherever continuity of supply and operator safety are critical — utility primary substations, industrial plants, and renewable-energy collector stations.

Key Features & Benefits

Safer Maintenance

The circuit breaker racks out to an isolated position, creating a visible disconnect so technicians can work on a feeder without de-energizing the whole busbar.

Fast Restoration (MTTR)

A faulty breaker truck is swapped for a tested spare in minutes — no rewiring — dramatically reducing mean time to repair versus fixed-pattern designs.

Interlocked Operation

Five-prevention mechanical interlocks enforce the correct service / test / isolated sequence, blocking misoperation that causes arc-flash incidents.

Standardized & Interchangeable

Trucks of the same rating are interchangeable across panels, simplifying spares holding for fleets and multi-site grid operators.

Technical Specifications & Compliance

HARRL withdrawable switchgear is designed, type-tested, and manufactured to international standards. Medium voltage metal-clad cabinets comply with IEC 62271-200 (including internal arc classification and the LSC2B / PM partition class), and low voltage withdrawable assemblies are type-tested to IEC 61439-1/-2.

  • Rated voltage: 12 kV / 24 kV / 40.5 kV (MV) and up to 690 V (LV)
  • Four-compartment metal-clad segregation with pressure-relief arc venting (MV)
  • Five-prevention mechanical interlocks against misoperation
  • Automatic safety shutters over live busbar spouts when withdrawn
  • Withdrawable VCB trucks (VS1 / ZN63A-12 class or equivalent)
  • Internal arc-fault containment to IEC 62271-200 Annex A

Exact ratings vary by model — see the linked datasheets for the certified figures of each cabinet.

Applications in Medium & Low Voltage Systems

Because a withdrawable design lets operators isolate and replace a single breaker without shutting the whole board, it is specified wherever downtime is costly:

  • Utility primary and secondary distribution substations
  • Industrial plant intake and motor-control switchboards
  • Renewable-energy collector and step-up stations (solar / wind)
  • Commercial buildings, data centers, and infrastructure projects

Why Choose HARRL as Your Withdrawable Switchgear Manufacturer

HARRL is a Chinese manufacturer of high & low voltage switchgear with 20+ years of experience and exports to 50+ countries. Our withdrawable cabinets are produced on an in-house CNC sheet-metal and automated assembly line, with 100% factory acceptance testing before dispatch. Every panel ships with type- test reports, and our engineering team supports single-line design, busbar selection, and project-specific customization for international tenders.
